In the Orange County Miscellaneous Records at the State Archives in Raleigh, NC is a folder entitled “White Supremacy Club 1900.” This is a transcription of the documents within, with links being added to profiles of individuals listed. The men listed in these documents were residents of not just Chapel Hill, but Orange and surrounding counties.

Chapel Hill, N.C. August 10th, 1900

Maj. D.H. Hamilton, Clerk of Superior Court of Orange Co., Hillsboro N.C.

My dear Sir:

At a regular meeting of the Chapel Hill White Supremacy Club held July 17th 1900 the following resolution was offered by W. N. Pritchard and unanimously adapted to wit:

Resolved that the Secretary of this Club be requested to prepare a roll of its members and that the same be deposited with the Clerk of the Court for Orange County, with the request that it be laid up among the records of said County for future reference, so that those who come after us may know who it was in Chapel Hill and the adjacent country that fought and voted to redeem our beloved State from Butler – negro rule. In the year of our Lord nineteen hundred.

In obedience to the request etc. I herewith enclose the roll of the members of the Chapel Hill White Supremacy Club.
